Return to the Shoes!

So today was a big day for me. It's been almost a year from that horrible day. As far as I can recall, the date was June 14, 2006 just 5 days before my 30th birthday. I was wearing a cute skirt outfit and funky ankle strap platform sandals and headed out to get lunch when I crossed 5th avenue, stepped into a dip in the street and went crashing down onto the pavement, seriously spraining my ankle. So now almost a year later, I have not only not worn those shoes since, but not been able to wear any heels at all. But I finally did it! Today I put those shoes back on and all was good. I'm happy to return to all my cute heels this summer and not be stuck in flat sandals like I was all last summer.

And today is the last day of April. Yay! My housewarming party is this Saturday, my birthday is less than two months away. And then summer is right around the corner. Here's hoping tomorrow's showers really do finally bring those May flowers. And yesterday was one of the best signs of summer to come. The first NYC street fair in my neighborhood. I just love those things. Especially the chocolate crepes and deep fried oreos. So bad ... but oooo soooo good! Yum-o!

What A Glorious Weekend

This weekend's weather has been fanfreakingtastic. I just love it. This is my absolute favorite weather. Mid 70s with the sunny skies and nice and breezy. Ahhh it's the best. After having an utterly fabulous out in Hoboken last night to celebrate Karen's 30th with some Karaoke, where we pulled out some tracks from Dirty Dancing, I headed out to the Upper West Side today for brunch with Leslie. That's what I love about days like today, being able to sit outside and have a relaxing lunch. I just love outdoor signing, enjoying your meal with the sun beating down and all people strolling by. I even ran into Carolyn Hinsey, who I used to work at the soap mags at. Totally randomness. But we had a fun day. We even stopped at the Greenmarket on Columbus for some tasty little samplings of treats. Yummy stuff. We even bought the most delicious rasberry jam. Mmm good! Here's to many more weekends ahead like this. I'm so ready for summertime!

Such a Tragedy!

I just can't get the awful events of yesterday morning at Virginia Tech out of my mind. And to think that the second shooting could have been prevented being that there were 2 1/2 hours in between. There needs to be a better system of security on these campuses.

Columbine in 1999 was such a tragedy and that was 12 people and now with this one 32 people are dead and all because of the damn guns. Something has to be done. To think that Columbine was 8 years ago almost to the day (is that just a coincidence?) and still nothing has changed. Maybe these latest events will wake people up and create a movement for some change, something that can prevent these kind of devastating tragedies from happening again. It is all just so sad.

Where are you Spring?

It is now April 12th and still this shit-ass weather. And I have tickets with Leslie for the first Mets game of the season on Sunday. And it's supposed to be a high of 43 degrees and pouring rain and wind. Are you fucking kidding. Well at least if it gets rained out before we have to hike out there, I'll get to go to a resheduled game in much warmer weather.

Where the hell is spring. It's almost a month into Spring and we've had like 2 nice days. And I can already see it coming, a few weeks from now it will all of a sudden jump into 85 days and hazy, hot and humid and skip spring all together. Here's hoping this all changes very soon. I'm having my housewarming party the first weekend in May, I was hoping for beautiful weather, so here's hoping this all changes by then.

On another bitching note, I am planning to go see my family out in Ohio the second weekend in June and it's been such a bitch trying to get a good airfare. It was suck at $250 all last week and now this week, it's been stuck at $275. What the hell. Who is going to Detroit anytime, let alone in the middle of June. Yea, I fly into lovely Detroit since it's only an hour away from my parent's house. So here's hoping that changes soon as well.

And for my last wish, the end of Sanajaya's run on American Idol. It had better end within the next two weeks, if not sooner. Because if I don't get the final four I want of Jordin, Blake, LaKisha and Melinda, then some serious heads are going to roll. The whole show is just going to go downhill.

Taxes suck!

I finally bit the bullet and heading on down to H&R block on Sunday. I hate going there. I even tried to avoid it by buying turbotax and trying to do it myself. But I failed at that. It's the the damn stocks and bonds that screw me up. Too complicated. So after two hours at the damn tax place, I got back 244 from Federal, but own 160 to New Jersey and 200 to New York. It's the income from those investments but whatever. But what really pissed me off is that I lived in New Jersey for all of TWO MONTHS!! That's bullshit. I hate New Jersey. So boy am I glad to be an official year round resident of New York City now. And now that I own my apartment, my 2007 taxes will be even better!

After that I headed over to try out the Dramatics NYC salon on 23rd Street. I got Flex the owner as my stylist and he was awesome. I was there for two hours, but I got a fabulous new cut and color.

Now that Passover has officially begun last night, I miss carbs already. And it doesn't end till next Tuesday night. Fun fun.

Off to my cousin's apartment on the upper east tonight for Passover dinner tonight. Which I am already annoyed about. My cousin doesn't even know how to make toast, so my aunt and my grandma are bringing in all the food. And she has a beautiful gourmet kitchen that is just collecting dust. And we're not even doing a seder, just having dinner. These are the times when I really hate my family not being in New York. Ah well, such is life.
